We were delighted when the excellent Cross Stitch Collection Magazine first featured us back in February 2014. Now they have devoted a generous four pages to our designer Yoh Nye Sakurai and his work!

Writer Judy Darley has produced a lovely portrait of Yoh and his Sakoran kits, and features photos showing how the beautiful English countryside of his Isle of Wight home continues to inspire his creativity.

Our most exciting news so far!

Sakoran designer and founder Yoh Nye Sakurai was this month announced as the winner of a major new competition. From hundreds of entries, Japanese corporation Felissimo carefully selected 20 winners of their first open handicrafts competition, and have announced Yoh Nye Sakurai as the top winner in their first Felissimo Couturier Minna No Tedukuri Sakuhinten. You can see a picture of Yoh's winning entry on the Felissimo website by clicking here.
Yoh spent much of 2014 designing and making his Teeny-Weeny Cross-Stitch Village which really caught the judges' eyes. In commending Yoh as winner, the judge commented:
Gazing at these pieces drew me into their tiny world. The care taken with every detail, the creation of each stitch and unique design radiates impressively from these pieces. Every part is flexible so you can combine them variously. This means that even after completing your project, you can carry on creating your imaginary world.

Yoh received a substantial cash prize and a magnificent certificate with some impressive comments which we have translated for you below:
Your pieces are a miniature picture-book world - a beautiful British countryside scene with cottage, church, little garden and lovely sheep meadow. You fully realised a precious dream of the small and pretty. These pieces thrill us and especially sparkle compared to any other competition entries.

With delicate embroidery and tenderness of form, every aspect of the idea and design was considered and realised through cross-stitch techniques and felt craft, and carefully rendered to sit comfortably in the hollow of a hand. The distinguished level of perfection achieved was highly valued by the judges.

These pieces will bring happiness to lots of people; looking at these pieces,  they will feel their hearts warmed to the brim through your work's richness and imaginative power. From our hearts we anticipate that, in the future, you will develop your talent even more from the level you achieved in winning this prize and that you will, with others, become a leading innovator in creative arts that will bring much happiness to people's lives.

Yoh will be bringing elements of these designs to future Sakoran kits, so watch this space for news of more products!
